Your students' safety is the first thing we plan for.

It's the first question your risk management office will ask and the first thing parents want to know. Here's our approach.

  • Insurance that meets your school's requirements

CELA carries a tour operator errors and omissions (E&O) policy and a general liability policy, both regularly vetted by sending institutions. We work with your school to meet or exceed all of its insurance requirements.

  • Trained staff, on call 24/7

Our on-site staff are trained in emergency response and crisis management. They carry a 24/7 emergency phone that connects directly to our US team. If something happens at 2 a.m. in Belize, Greece, Costa Rica, or Thailand, someone answers.

  • Every site vetted

We assess risk at every location on your itinerary. Transportation, housing, clinical sites, field locations, and excursions are all vetted before your group arrives.

  • Health and travel guidance

We review State Department travel advisories and CDC health guidance for your destination, and plan around the nearest hospitals and medical care.

  • Orientation for everyone

Students and faculty get a pre-departure orientation on health and safety, cultural preparation, emergency procedures, and conduct. We don't assume anyone has traveled internationally before.

  • Protocols refined since 2009

We've documented protocols for medical emergencies, natural disasters, political instability, and mental health crises, and our staff are trained on every one. We hope you never need them.
