Two weeks studying Belize's wildlife from a veterinary, biology, or conservation angle. Lectures, field trips, and hands-on practicums cover tropical ecology, conservation, and wildlife research techniques. You might track jaguars, monitor raptors, study howler monkeys, or work with crocodiles, with the Belize Zoo as one of your key study sites.
You're based at the Tropical Education Center, across the road from the Belize Zoo, where you work alongside zookeepers. Then you travel to Runaway Creek Nature Reserve to experience real field research conditions. You'll observe and collect data on both captive and wild animals, and learn about current wildlife research in Belize, its conservation challenges, and the rehabilitation and education work happening there.
It's an intensive introductory course for undergraduates interested in wildlife health from a pre-veterinary, biology, or conservation perspective. You may be able to use federal financial aid toward your tuition.
